WhatsAppto have Face ID and Touch ID Support

WhatsApp will reportedly bring Face ID and Touch ID support to iOS users. According to WABetaInfo, users will be able to unlock their app with their face or fingerprint, a feature that has been requested for some time.

The addition would add an extra layer of security on top of a full phone lock, letting users loan their device to a friend without fear of prying eyes. The publication says this feature is still in the alpha stage and may not be available for everyone.

However, it did share some screenshots of the toggle, which reads ‘Prompt for Face ID each time WhatsApp is opened’. The integration of Face ID should greatly reduce the effort required compared to the existing PIN, which barely anyone uses.

Still, the PIN will see some use when a user is locked out of their account. Too many incorrect attempts will prompt manual entry before the user can continue. Apparently, WhatsApp business will also support this feature, but there’s no news on Android.
Dark Mode and UI Tweaks

As well as hints at authentication support, the recent WhatsApp update included traces of an upcoming dark mode. It appears the option will be closer to grey than full OLED black, but it should still give plenty of relief to the eyes.

WhatsApp also appears to be making some UI changes, with a new bubble actions UI and support for images and GIFs in notifications. It seems the team is also working on video support for notifications, which could be very useful.
